Grower Spotlight: Hoffman Farms
Our first BarnBox customer is a local Colorado farmer in Greeley, Hoffman Farms. Derrick and Hanmei Hoffman have been farming fruits and vegetables for 25 years. They needed a simple cold storage solution that they could readily access in the field. And, they needed it to be really energy efficient because the power available was almost at capacity. Because Barnbox operates on 110V, they were able to avoid more that $17K in power upgrades on the land they lease.”
Affordable, modular cold storage solutions are critical for food security, especially as our climate becomes more unpredictable. Our farmers work hard to grow our food, and that food should not go to waste because of lack of environmentally controlled storage solutions. In its second season, our 20ft long BarnBox protects their produce from any weather Colorado has to offer.
In a recent email, Derrick said:
“…Everything we purchased at the start of the year really changed our year, including BarnBox. It made a huge impact. Ran without a single issue!”
Hoffman Farms grows many crops, including Sweet Corn, Bell Peppers, Cherry Tomatoes, Strawberries, Green Beans, Wax Beans, Cucumbers, Summer Squash, Melons, Carrots, Beets, Potatoes, Onions, Winter Squash, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Peas, Edamame, Eggplants, Spinach, Romaine, and Brussels Sprouts. Many of these get stored in BarnBox before ending up in the Greeley schools, local restaurants and farmers markets.
We are grateful for growers like Derrick and Hanmei for bringing healthy produce to our plates, and we are thrilled to partner with farmers who are as committed as we are to food security and accessibility.
